The BEST And EASIEST Sloppy Joe I’ve Ever Had…AND Made
Ingredients:
3 lbs beef
1 yellow onion, sliced thin
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 batch homemade ketchup, see 5 minute ketchup recipe
1 c vegetable or beef stock
1 tsp chili powder
2 tsp paprika
2 tbsp oil
1 tbsp salt
2 tsp pepper
2 tbsp white distilled vinegar
6 pack of potato burger buns
3 tbsp unsalted butter
Tools needed:
Cutting board
Sharp knife
Large saute pan
Large serving spoon
Measuring cups and spoons
How to make it:
In a cold pan add oil, onions and a pinch of salt. Sweat the onions for 3-5 minutes on medium low heat until they turn translucent and have lost their moisture. Once translucent, add the garlic and sweat for 30 seconds or so until the rawness is cooked from the garlic…it will be fragrant when ready. Add the spices, cooking the spices with the onions for 1 to 2 minutes. Deglaze the pan with the 2 tbsp vinegar. Add the 3 lbs beef. Crush down the beef with a fork or masher until browned. Drain the fat once the beef is cooked, reserving the fat for later purposes. Add the stock and ketchup at this point. Mix thoroughly to combine all ingredients and cook for 3-5 minutes or until the sloppy joe sauce is reduced and thick to your liking. Stir occasionally making sure to get the browned food bits from the bottom of the pan. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if desired…more salt, pepper and or vinegar.
Brown the potatoes buns in a pan with melted butter for 1-2 minutes per side.
Serve while still hot with a side salad, fries, tater tots or pasta salad
Enjoy!
