Juciest, Classic Burger For All Burger Fans
I love me a classic burger. No fancy extras, no crazy cooking techniques. Burger patty with cheese, some pickles, onions, tomatoes, some sort of condiment (I love me bbq sauce) and some crispy bacon….what’s not to love!
Homemade BBQ sauce video recipe
Ingredients:
2 lbs ground sirloin
Potato buns
1 red onion
2 roma tomatoes or tomatoes off the vine
Pickles
Romaine lettuce
Condiment of your choice
2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp oil
Cheese of your liking, I used Colby Jack
Salt and pepper
Tools needed:
Cutting board
Sharp knife
Casti iron pan
Stove top burner
How to make it:
Thinly slice onions and tomatoes. Gather the rest of your burger toppings.
Working with room temperature or close to room temperature meat, portion the ground sirloin out to around 6 oz each and 1-1/2 to 2 inches thick. I try to get 5 patties out of 2 pounds of the ground meat. Right when you’'re ready to put your patties in the pan, season well with salt and pepper on both sides.
Over medium high heat (5 on the dial), heat your cast iron pan to the point of it just starting to smoke. Add oil and carefully place 2-3 patties in the pan. I try not to add too many as it may reduce the heat of the pan too much. We want to have a nice caramelized sear on the outsides of the patties. Cook on the first side for 1-3 minutes depending on how much you want your burger cooked. Flip and allowing to cook about 1 minute on the second side before placing your cheese on top. Cook an additional minute to fully melt the cheese, set aside on a plate to rest for about 5 minutes. This time frame for me made a medium temperature burger. There are many variables for time frames such as patty size and thicknesses to account for.
Pour out some oil and add your sliced red onions to the pan. Season with a pinch of salt and melt in 1 tbsp unsalted butter. Saute for 2 minutes to slightly caramelize the onions. Set aside.
Melt in 1 more tbsp butter and lightly brown both sides of your buns.
NOW, get your burger fixings ready and assemble your burger.
Enjoy your juicy homemade burger. I love me some bbq sauce on mine, but of course whatever your condiment of choice is will work just fine.
Enjoy!
