Biscuits And Gravy W/ Two Ingredient Biscuits
Biscuits and gravy are one of my favorites when it comes to American comfort meals. Not difficult or time consuming to make whatsoever, but it’ll taste like you spent all day in the kitchen!
My two ingredient biscuits are super tasty and easy to make. You really don’t need to measure anything, but I will have some rough measurements below.
Ingredients:
2c or 200 g self rising flour plus 1/4 c for dusting (I use ap flour)
1-1/4 to 1-1/2 c whole milk or around 200 g
Pinch salt
For the gravy:
1 lb ground Italian sausage
1-1/2 to 2 c whole milk
2 tbsp flour
2 tbsp butter, unsalted
Salt
Pepper
1/4 c melted butter
Tools needed:
Large mixing bowl
Small mixing bowl
Pastry brush
Measuring cups and spoons
Large saute pan
Baking sheet
Parchment paper
Bench scraper
How to make it:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees f.
In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and milk. Mix together until a shaggy dough forms.
On A lightly floured countertop, knead the dough for 1 to 2 minutes or until you can feel the gluten develop. Cut the dough into 8 equally sized pieces, shape them into a ball or rough biscuit shape and place them onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
Brush tops with melted butter and place in the oven. Bake for 25 to 20 minutes.
While the biscuits bake, let’s make this gravy. Warm up your large saute pan over medium heat, add 2 tbsp oil and the sausage. Break the sausage up with a fork as it cooks to crumble it up. Cook sausage thoroughly, this can take 2 to 3 minutes. Once fully cooked, melt in 2 tbsp butter and add the flour. This is our “roux” for thickening the gravy. Mix the flour into the sausage and cook off the rawness in the flour for an additional 2 or so minutes. Add the milk a third of the amount at a time, mixing the milk in fully before adding more. Adding the milk in bits at a time will help the gravy not get clumpy. Once the milk is all added, bring the gravy to a simmer. You may need to add more milk if you want your gravy thinner, or you can simmer it longer for a thicker gravy. Season lightly with salt and pepper, of course to taste.
Once gravy is thickened to your liking, place a biscuit or two on a plate and top with gravy. I like to serve mine with a couple fried eggs. Scrambled eggs are also great!
Enjoy!
