How To Preserve Peppers In Sugar

preserved peppers on a plate

This recipe is super easy to make and takes only 2 ingredients. Such a great way to keep those peppers you have on hand for longer than they would otherwise stay fresh for. Plus, you get a nice sweet and spicy treat from the peppers and sugar. You can use just the peppers and just the sugar in a lot of different ways. Chop the peppers and addd them to a salad, or make some spicy cornbread with the sugar!

This is a cool method of getting sweet and spicy peppers with an infused sugar combined. It is really easy to make and all you need is sugar and spicy peppers!

Ingredients:

***You can always adjust the amounts if you have more peppers on hand.

10 peppers of your choice (I did habanero and ghost peppers) or 5 smaller peppers if they are bigger

About 4 c sugar

Tools needed:

Sharp knife

Cutting board

Colander

Mixing bowl

Rubber gloves

Measuring cup

Mason jar, wide mouth

How to make it

Wash peppers under cold running water, let air dry. Pull off stems, cut peppers in half and optionally remove seeds. Wearing rubber gloves of course!

In a mixing bowl combine the peppers and sugar. Toss the peppers in the sugar until the peppers are fully coated with the sugar. Carefully place all of the sugar with the peppers into a wide mouth mason jar. Make sure that the peppers stay covered with the sugar at all times. Cover the jar with a tight fitting lid and place in your pantry for 1 week to infuse. After the week is up, use the peppers as desired. This will keep in the pantry just fine, the peppers stay good for a few months minimum. The peppers go great chopped up and put into salads, on sandwiches (yes, for a sweet and spicy suprise), toss them into a sauce and you can eat them as is! The sugar can be used wherever you use sugar for a nice spicy kick! I used the sugar in my homemade fudge the came out insanely good! The peppers and sugar stays good for 1-2 months…possibly longer if you don’t use it by then.

Enjoy!
