Homemade Habanero Seasoned Salt
Anytime there’s a pureed sauce made from tomatoes, peppers or other fruits/vegetables, there's pulp that needs to get strained from the sauce. That pulp, once dried out and ground can be mixed with salt to make a delicious homemade seasoned salt. This recipe for habanero seasoned salt is just that. Very delicious and goes well on pasta, steak, poultry, seafood….just about everything!
Ingredients:
1/2 c pulp from strained homemade hot sauce, see this recipe on how I made it from fermented habaneros or this recipe made from roasted pineapple and habaneros
1/2 c kosher salt
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
1/2 tsp cumin
Tools needed:
Sheet pan
Parchment paper
Rubber spatula
Mixing bowl
Measuring spoons and measuring cup
Wire whisk
How to make it:
Preheat oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
Place the pulp on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Spread flat with rubber spatula. Bake for 2-3 hours, rotating sheet pan every hour and stirring the pulp. Once completed dry, place pulp in a spice grinder and grind until broken up completely. Add all of the ingredients above plus ground pulp to a mixing bowl, mix thoroughly. Place seasoned salt in a jar of an appropriate size. Label and date, is best when used within 3 months.
Enjoy!
